7 Morning Routine Ideas to Start Your Day on the Right Foot

Morning routines are the ultimate self-care. A healthy morning routine will help you set the tone for your day. Everyone’s morning routine looks different, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all. However, many of the most successful routines include a few of the same habits. Today we’ll share these ideas so you can integrate them into your morning routine and start the day off on the right foot!

1. Set an Alarm and Don’t Hit Snooze

Start the day off at the same time every day, and don’t hit snooze! Waking up at the same time creates healthy sleep patterns and can improve alertness. It’s tempting to hit snooze and get the extra 10-15 minutes of sleep, but it can make you tired and even mess up your internal clock and natural sleep patterns.

2. Unplug

Ok… we know this one is hard! But hear us out. You don’t need to be on your phone 24/7. Our technology addiction is bad, 75% of us now spend at least three hours a day looking at our phones. Instead of infinitely scrolling through social media when you wake up or rushing to check emails, take your morning to unplug intentionally. If you have a hard time unplugging, try putting your phone on “do not disturb” or switch to airplane mode. The stillness and quiet will allow you to be mindful and focus on the day ahead.

3. Exercise

Working out gives you energy - making it the perfect way to start your day. Consistently exercising at the same time will help you stick to this healthy habit. Add a workout to your morning routine to get your blood pumping. Why the morning? Exercise is known to give you more energy and boost your mood which can really help kick off your day. A 2019 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that morning exercise improves attention, visual learning, and decision-making. These all seem like great reasons to add activity to your daily morning routine!

4. Create Healthy Hygiene Habits

Personal hygiene is a must for both your mental and physical health. It’s a big part of self-care. It doesn’t have to be complicated. We aren’t suggesting everyone perform an 11 step skincare routine. Instead, we’re talking about the basics that have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing. This can include showering, fixing your hair, any skincare routines, and of course, brushing your teeth! Our dual-layered flossing bristles are 10x thinner than your typical brush and reach deep into grooves where 95% of cavities form! They will help you fight tooth decay and get your teeth squeaky clean so you can take on the day with a smile and confidence. Get yours here!

5. Get Ready Daily

Start your day off right with this easy confidence booster! Simply changing out of your pajamas and into a new outfit signals your brain it’s time to start the day and will boost your mood. Getting dressed allows you to be prepared for anything. Some studies even suggest that people who get ready daily are more productive.

6. Eat a Well Balanced Breakfast

A great breakfast helps you jumpstart your metabolism and boosts your energy for the day ahead. People skip breakfast when we are in a hurry, but this is a mistake. Breakfast helps fuel your body and even reduces urges to make unhealthy choices later in the day. Skip overly processed foods with too much sugar and stick to healthy options that fuel your body such as foods high in protein or fiber. Greek yogurt, oatmeal, eggs or breakfast smoothies all make great options!

7. Add Journaling to Your Morning Routine

Writing down whatever comes to mind will help you become more in tune with your emotions and needs. It’s a great addition to your morning routine for both your physical and mental health. A recent study found even writing for 15 to 20 minutes a day three to five times over the course of four months was enough to lower blood pressure and have better liver functionality. Journaling is an excellent tool for anyone who would like to become more mindful and reduce stress - leave it all on the page and get on with your day!
